The Detroit Lions have agreed to a futures contract with wide receiver Ronnie Bell

The Detroit Lions have added former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ronnie Bell to a futures contract.

Drafted in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, the former Michigan Wolverines wideout recorded eight receptions for 90 yards and three touchdowns with the NFC West team.

NFL analyst Lance Zierlein described Bell as a “true Michigan Man,” emphasizing his competitive spirit and work ethic typical of the program. Bell made a comeback in 2022 after suffering an ACL tear in 2021, but at times appeared a bit passive in his route breaks. While his low contested catch numbers may seem misleading, the tape shows some impressive near-catches at tough angles. His ball skills are a strength, and though he can catch passes thrown his way, he may struggle to create consistent separation on the next level, possibly relying more on zone or scheme assistance.

At Michigan, Bell totaled 145 receptions for 2,269 yards and nine touchdowns.

In a related move, tight end James Mitchell, a fifth-round pick in the 2022 draft by general manager Brad Holmes, was signed to a futures contract by the Carolina Panthers.
