Detroit Lions Lose Top Coach to New England Rivalry

The Detroit Lions are once again in search of a coach.

The New England Patriots are reportedly hiring Terrell Williams, the Lions’ run game coordinator and defensive line coach, as their new defensive coordinator.

Williams will reunite with newly hired Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel, with whom he worked for six seasons on the Tennessee Titans’ staff.

During their time in Tennessee, Vrabel served as head coach while Williams oversaw the defensive line.

Vrabel even promoted Williams to “assistant head coach” in their final year together, making it unsurprising that he pursued Williams for this role.

Williams’ tenure with the Lions lasted just one season, but his influence on the defensive line was significant.

He played a vital role in the development of young players such as Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, Levi Onwuzurike, and rookie Mekhi Wingo.

After the news broke, Wingo expressed his concerns about losing Williams on social media.

Highly regarded within the Lions organization, Williams had a history with head coach Dan Campbell, as they both coached on the Miami Dolphins staff in 2015.

Campbell once praised Williams, saying, “I think he’s the best d-line coach in the league. If he’s not, he’s certainly right up there.”

Losing Williams is a significant blow to Detroit’s coaching staff, leaving Campbell to find his fourth defensive line coach in four seasons. Previous coaches John Scott Jr.

Todd Wash each held the position for one and two seasons, respectively. Campbell now faces another opportunity to showcase his ability to build a strong coaching team.
