Emerson Royal’s Injury in Girona Match Opens Door for Walker’s Milan

Milan’s decision to sign Kyle Walker from Manchester City may turn out to be a timely one after Emerson Royal was forced to leave the field early in his side’s home Champions League match against Girona.

The former Tottenham defender limped off just under five minutes into the game after a challenge from Girona’s Bryan Gil, who stepped on his foot, causing immediate pain.

Despite receiving treatment, the 26-year-old was unable to continue, prompting coach Sergio Conceição to bring on Davide Calabria as his replacement.

Royal was clearly limping as he made his way off the field, heading straight into the tunnel with medical staff, suggesting the injury might be serious, though further tests will reveal the full extent of the problem.

Emerson Royal has been the preferred right-back choice for both Paulo Fonseca and now Sergio Conceição, so his absence could open the door for Walker to make his debut in the upcoming matches, with the English international reportedly close to finalizing his move to Milan.
