The Detroit Lions have added former San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Ronnie Bell to a futures contract.
Bell, who was drafted by the 49ers in the seventh round of the 2023 NFL Draft, recorded eight receptions for 90 yards and three touchdowns during his time with the NFC West team.
NFL analyst Lance Zierlein described Bell as a “true Michigan Man,” praising his competitive spirit and work ethic. Bell made his comeback in 2022 after recovering from an ACL injury in 2021, though he still showed some hesitation at times when making cuts. Zierlein noted that while Bell’s contested catch numbers may seem low, his tape showcases impressive near-catches in difficult situations. His ball skills are strong, and while he can catch what’s thrown to him, he may need scheme support or to play against zone coverage to overcome potential struggles with separation at the next level.
During his time at Michigan, Bell accumulated 145 receptions for 2,269 yards and nine touchdowns.
Earlier on Tuesday, tight end James Mitchell, drafted by general manager Brad Holmes in the fifth round of the 2022 draft, was signed to a futures contract by the Carolina Panthers.
