Detroit Lions Captain Reacts to Defensive Coach Aaron Glenn Leaving”

In the last three days, the Detroit Lions have seen both their offensive and defensive coordinators leave for head coaching roles with other teams.

However, the reactions to their exits have varied significantly. Former offensive coordinator Ben Johnson’s decision to join the Chicago Bears, an NFC North rival, has been met with criticism from fans.

While players have been mostly silent on his move, David Montgomery and Amon-Ra St. Brown briefly acknowledged it on Instagram.

Conversely, Aaron Glenn’s departure to become the New York Jets’ head coach has garnered strong support from the Lions organization.

Team captain Alex Anzalone, in particular, shared a heartfelt message for Glenn on Instagram, as noted by MLive’s Kory Woods.

Anzalone and Glenn’s connection goes back to 2017, when Anzalone was drafted by the New Orleans Saints, where Glenn was the defensive backs coach.

Four years later, Anzalone joined the Lions just months after Glenn became the team’s defensive coordinator.

Under Glenn’s guidance, Anzalone delivered the best seasons of his career, including setting career highs in tackles and sacks.

In 2022, Anzalone reached a career-best 125 tackles, only to surpass it with 129 tackles the next year. He also recorded three sacks in 2023, along with seven tackles for loss in three consecutive seasons.

Anzalone isn’t the only player showing support. Rookie Terrion Arnold also shared a message backing Glenn.
