Lions’ Jameson Williams Hit with $25,325 Fine for Wild Touchdown Celebration Against Commanders

Detroit Lions wide receiver Jameson Williams faced two setbacks in one week. One came from the Washington Commanders ending the Lions’ season, while the other cost him his wallet on Saturday.

Williams was fined $25,325 by the league, according to NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero. The fine stemmed from his second-quarter touchdown run. Williams scored on a 61-yard run to the left end, and Pelissero described his end zone dance as โ€œPG-13 rated.โ€

However, Williams was fined for unsportsmanlike conduct after performing his elaborate TD celebration. He never returned to the end zone after the play.

He and the Lions ultimately suffered a 45-31 upset loss to the Commanders, eliminating Detroit from playoff contention.

Now, they must watch Washington face the Philadelphia Eagles for the NFC Championship.

Is Jameson Williams Facing a Key Offseason with the Lions?

Williams is now $25,000 poorer due to the fine.

Back in November, he also performed a Marshawn Lynch-themed celebration, which resulted in a $19.7 million fine from the league.

But another monetary matter concerning Williams will emerge this offseason.

The No. 12 overall pick of the 2022 NFL Draft is heading into the fourth year of his rookie contract, which was worth $17.4 million over four years.

After a slow start, catching only 25 passes in his first two seasons and scoring three touchdowns, Williams showed he could be a game-changer.

The former Alabama star had his best season yet, catching 58 passes, amassing 1,001 yards, and scoring seven touchdowns in 2024โ€”all career highs. His play was a major factor in Ben Johnson’s offense leading the NFL in scoring.

Williams may now seek a more lucrative contract. His 1,000-yard season and improved production after a disappointing start to his career put him in the spotlight.

Heโ€™ll be a significant talking point for the NFC North champions this offseason.
