Cowboys Request Interview with Falcons Assistant for Coaching Role
The Dallas Cowboys are considering Atlanta Falcons tight ends coach Kevin Koger for their offensive coordinator position under head coach Brian Schottenheimer.
The Dallas Cowboys have asked to interview Kevin Koger, the tight ends coach for the Atlanta Falcons, for their open offensive coordinator role.
The Atlanta Falcons might lose another member of their coaching staff. The Dallas Cowboys have requested to interview Kevin Koger, who coaches tight ends for the Falcons, for their vacant offensive coordinator job under newly appointed head coach Brian Schottenheimer, according to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Koger had previously interviewed for the Cleveland Browns’ offensive coordinator role.
Under Koger’s leadership, Kyle Pitts caught 47 passes for 602 yards, which was a decline from the previous year, although he had 16 fewer targets, and scored a career-high four touchdowns. Charlie Woerner set a career-high with seven catches for 46 yards, while Ross Dwelley had one reception for five yards.
The 35-year-old Koger played tight end at the University of Michigan from 2008-2011, earning All-Big Ten honorable mention as a senior with 21 receptions for 235 yards and four touchdowns.
Koger went undrafted after injuring his Achilles a month before the 2012 NFL Draft and started his coaching career later that year as the tight ends coach at Saline High School in Michigan.
In 2013, Koger became a graduate assistant at Michigan for two years before taking the same position at the University of Tennessee.
From 2016-2018, Koger served as the receivers coach and special teams coordinator at Eastern Kentucky University, eventually moving on to the Green Bay Packers as an offensive quality control coach.
Koger spent two years in Green Bay before joining the Chargers as their tight ends coach, a role he held from 2021-23.
If Koger moves to Dallas, he would be the second member of the Falcons’ offensive coaching staff to leave, following pass game specialist Chandler Whitmer, who became the quarterbacks coach and co-offensive coordinator at Indiana
University.
