The Detroit Lions will be without another defensive staff member heading into the offseason. NFL insider Aaron Wilson reports that the Lions have parted ways with assistant defensive line coach Cameron Davis, who had held the position since 2022.
Earlier this offseason, the Lions lost defensive line coach Terrell Williams, who left to take the defensive coordinator role with the New England Patriots, reuniting with Mike Vrabel. The Lions have reportedly brought in Kacy Rodgers as the new defensive line coach.
This series of changes creates notable disruption for the Lions’ defensive front, despite head coach Dan Campbell previously expressing satisfaction with the coaching staff.
“I’ve known Terrell a long time, and I think he’s an outstanding coach. Cam is also growing as a coach, and they work really well together,” Campbell said back in December. “They give our players the best chance to succeed, which is exactly what you want.”
The Lions’ defensive line faced significant challenges this season due to injuries. Key players such as Aidan Hutchinson, Alim McNeill, Marcus Davenport, Kyle Peko, John Cominsky, and Mekhi Wingo missed considerable time. Still, the Lions’ defense stayed competitive, with standout performances from Levi Onwuzurike and Josh Paschal.
Despite this, the Lions now have another coaching role to fill. This offseason has already seen significant departures, including:
OC Ben Johnson
DC Aaron Glenn
Assistant QB coach J.T. Barrett
WR coach Antwaan Randle El
DL coach Terrell Williams
Assistant DL coach Cameron Davis
Additionally, the team may soon lose pass game coordinator Tanner Engstrand as well.
