NBA Scouts to Attend BYU/Baylor Game Featuring Top Draft Prospects
PROVO, Utah – The Marriott Center will draw significant attention from NBA scouts on Tuesday night when BYU faces off against Baylor.
This matchup features two of the most highly regarded NBA draft prospects for 2025: BYU point guard Egor Demin and Baylor guard VJ Edgecombe.
NBA Scouts Flooding the BYU/Baylor Game
Approximately 30 NBA scouts from 15 teams are expected to be present in Provo for this Big 12 showdown. The Utah Jazz and Brooklyn Nets will each have multiple representatives at the game, according to a source speaking to KSL Sports.
Edgecombe has been projected as a potential Top-Five pick in the upcoming draft, and Demin is also close to breaking into the top-five in recent mock drafts.
Demin heads into this game following strong performances in BYU’s wins over Colorado and Cincinnati, including a game where he hit three 3-pointers in a blowout win over Cincinnati.
As he prepares to face off against Edgecombe and Baylor, Demin is eager for the challenge.
“It’s always exciting to play against teams like this,” Demin said about the matchup. “I hear about them playing in Europe or Russia and seeing them in March Madness. It’s fun to compete against players who are draft prospects. There’s always solid competition in the Big 12, which I know from experience.”
Demin is no stranger to high-stakes games with numerous NBA scouts in attendance. There was a large scouting presence back in December when BYU played Providence on the East Coast, though Demin suffered a knee contusion early in that game. Earlier this month, over two dozen scouts watched BYU take on Houston in a Big 12 contest.
Potential NBA First-Round Talent: Demin and Edgecombe
Alongside Edgecombe and Demin, other potential NBA draft prospects in this game include Baylor’s Robert Wright III, Norchad Omier, and BYU’s Kanon Catchings and Richie Saunders.
“We work hard to create an environment that helps guys improve and develop,” said BYU coach Kevin Young when discussing Demin and Catchings’ NBA futures. “When I speak with my contacts in the NBA, these guys are certainly on their radar. There’s been a lot of traffic coming in and out, and I get constant calls. Tomorrow will be no different, with many scouts attending. We’re seeing lots of eyes on these players, and as the season and draft process continues, I think these guys will be on the radar even more.”
BYU enters the game with a 13-6 record and a 4-4 mark in Big 12 play. Baylor is also 13-6 overall and on a two-game winning streak. They hold a one-game advantage over BYU in the Big 12 standings at 5-3.
