Clippers icon Lou Williams commented on the possibility of De’Aaron Fox leaving the Sacramento Kings.
As the NBA trade deadline approaches, the Sacramento Kings have made headlines by reportedly discussing the potential trade of All-Star point guard De’Aaron Fox. While much of the focus has been on players like Jimmy Butler and Bradley Beal, Fox might be a more enticing option for teams looking to add a game-changer to their roster.
According to ESPN’s Shams Charania, “The Sacramento Kings are expected to open up talks to potentially deal All-Star De’Aaron Fox ahead of Feb. 6 trade deadline. There will be plenty of suitors, but it’s believed that Fox has a target destination in mind ahead of 2026 free agency.”
The San Antonio Spurs have been widely speculated as Fox’s preferred landing spot, where he could team up with rising star Victor Wembanyama. With Fox eligible for unrestricted free agency in 2026, any team pursuing him must secure a commitment for an extension. If San Antonio is his preferred choice, a move to the Spurs could very well happen.
Lou Williams, a 17-year NBA veteran and three-time Sixth Man of the Year, weighed in on the potential departure of Fox from Sacramento, citing the Spurs as an ideal fit for the guard.
“I would like to see him on the San Antonio Spurs and pair him up with a Wemby, especially with the future of Chris Paul in question,” Williams said. “You don’t know what Chris Paul’s future holds at this stage in his career. So, pairing Fox, a young star with plenty of good basketball ahead, could be a great move. There’s a chance he could be traded there, but I don’t see him re-signing after all the drama in Sacramento.”
Teaming Fox, a two-time All-Star, with the 21-year-old Wembanyama, who stands 7-foot-4, would instantly make the Spurs a more formidable team, despite their current 20-23 record through 43 games.
For the Spurs, the best way to maximize the potential of one of the most unique players in history would be to surround him with a top-tier point guard.
