Los Angeles Lakers star Anthony Davis sustained an abdominal injury during Tuesday’s game against the Philadelphia 76ers and is expected to miss several games.
On Wednesday, the Lakers confirmed that Davis underwent an MRI, which revealed a strained abdominal muscle. He will return to Los Angeles and will be reassessed in a week.
This means Davis will be sidelined for the remainder of the Lakers’ current road trip, including games against the Washington Wizards, New York Knicks, and Los Angeles Clippers.
Davis exited the court in the second quarter of the Lakers’ 118-104 loss to Philadelphia, finishing with 4 points, 2 rebounds, and a steal in just 10 minutes of play.
Before the injury, Davis had been playing some of his best basketball of the season. Over the previous two games, both wins, he recorded 78 points and 36 rebounds. For the season, he is averaging 25.7 points and 11.9 rebounds per game.
The Lakers had won four consecutive games before their loss to Philadelphia, bringing their season record to 26-19.
Davis has expressed his desire for the Lakers to make a move before next week’s trade deadline, and the team may now feel pressured to act if their star player is expected to miss significant time.
