It’s well-known that the Detroit Lions, or at least their supporters, would love to bring Michigan native Maxx Crosby of the Raiders to Detroit.
If there’s one player who tops the wish-list for nearly every Detroit Lions fan, it’s the explosive Maxx Crosby of the Las Vegas Raiders. Not only is Crosby a Michigan product, but his energy and intensity make him a perfect fit for the Motor City.
For years, both fans and NFL experts have discussed the possibility of Crosby being traded to Detroit.
Now that Crosby has a new head coach with the Raiders, Pete Carroll, his recent comments about the coach might put a damper on Detroit’s hopes.
Crosby, a standout defensive end, hails from Lapeer and played college football at Eastern Michigan before entering the NFL. He would complement fellow defensive end Aidan Hutchinson perfectly in Detroit.
However, this Detroit dream player appears to be excited about the future with the Raiders and their new head coach.
On January 29, while appearing on SiriusXM’s “Let’s Go” podcast with Jim Gray, Crosby expressed his enthusiasm about the team’s direction under Carroll.
“It’s exciting,” Crosby shared about the Raiders hiring Carroll.
“The number one thing you look at is energy. We talked about it a few times. Competition as well.”
He went on to say, “As a competitor who brings energy all the time and thrives off that, I love someone with that mentality. He’s a winner who’s done it throughout his career. It’s exciting to see what’s ahead.”
Crosby also mentioned conversations with Carroll and new general manager John Spytek, expressing his eagerness to be part of the team’s rebuild.
“Pete Carroll told me that we’re going full speed ahead,” Crosby shared. “After his press conference, he emphasized that we’re not wasting any time. We’re rolling forward. It’s exciting.”
He added that his goal every year is to “win every year.”
If Crosby were to be traded, Lions fans would likely prefer him to land in Detroit.
However, NFL analyst Tyler Brooke of The 33rd Team suggests that Green Bay could be a good destination. In his January 21 article, he proposed the idea of Crosby joining the Packers.
In his trade suggestion, the Raiders would receive a 2025 second-round pick and a 2026 third-round pick in return.
He pointed out that the Packers “urgently need a pass rusher—one who can contribute immediately for a potential Super Bowl run in 2025.”
Brooke acknowledged that “it would take a lot to convince the Raiders to trade their franchise player in his prime,” but believes Green Bay “would be an ideal fit.”
Crosby signed a four-year, $94 million contract with the Raiders in 2022, with an average annual salary of $23.5 million. The Las Vegas Raiders selected him in the fourth round of the 2019 NFL Draft.
Last season, Crosby tallied 45 tackles, 7.5 sacks, and five passes defended in 12 games.
