In an interview during the 2024 NFL season, Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff shared that he thinks about his post-playing career “quite a bit” and reflected on what his next steps might be.
“Whenever I’m done, however many years from now that is, am I burnt out or do I want more?” he told the Detroit Free Press. “I don’t know. I’ve always said I’d love to help a friend who’s a coach, especially a head coach.
‘Hey, how can I help?’ And I’m not talking about coaching quarterbacks or anything specific, but just, ‘Can I be of assistance?’” … “If I end up coaching my kid in high school, that’d be fun. But yeah, if I have a close friend who’s a head coach somewhere and I can help in some way, sure, that’d be fun. It could be a remote job, but it depends on the location.”
While Goff’s NFL career is still ongoing, he’s already planning his next steps. On Friday, it was revealed that he’s part of an investment group aiming to bring a WNBA team to Detroit. “I’m excited to join this inspiring group of leaders working to bring a WNBA team to Detroit! It’s an amazing opportunity for our vibrant community and some of the most passionate fans in the country!” he said in a statement on Instagram. His wife, Christen, is also part of the bid and reacted with a “LetsBringIt” hashtag and a blue heart emoji.
At just 30 years old, Goff still has a lot of football left to play, but he’s already looking ahead to the future.
