Real Madrid player ratings vs. Espanyol: Blancos falter in front of goal, leaving title race wide open! Vinicius Jr and Mbappe off target in poor performance.

Carlo Ancelotti’s team suffered a disappointing defeat on Saturday, losing 1-0 to a disciplined Espanyol squad, which revived Atletico Madrid and Barcelona’s hopes in the title race. Despite dominating possession, Real Madrid lacked sharpness in front of goal, leading to a frustrating away loss.

Ancelotti’s men thought they had taken the lead in the 20th minute when Vinicius Jr. scored with a brilliant curling shot into the bottom corner. However, the goal was ruled out for a foul in the buildup involving Kylian Mbappe. Espanyol defended resolutely throughout, limiting Madrid’s chances for much of the first half.

The second half saw more of the same. Madrid showed intent but struggled to create meaningful opportunities. They took numerous shots but had little to show for them. With 15 minutes left, Rodrygo came close when he cut inside his defender but hit the post with a delicate shot. Mbappe also had a chance but sent his attempt wide.

Espanyol punished Madrid’s wasted opportunities with a swift counter-attack, culminating in a calm finish from left-back Carlos Romero. It was a fully deserved goal, highlighting that the title race may be more challenging for Los Blancos than anticipated.

Goalkeeper & Defence

Thibaut Courtois (6/10):
Made several key saves but had no chance with the goal.

Lucas Vazquez (6/10):
Provided width on the right, supported the attack, and contributed defensively.

Aurelien Tchouameni (5/10):
Lost some important duels and was lucky not to concede further.

Antonio Rudiger (N/A):
Was forced off with an injury after 15 minutes, which was a blow for Madrid.

Fran Garcia (7/10):
Energetic and lively on the wing, likely his team’s best performer.
