Tottenham make surprise late move for £195k-per-week Chelsea star

Tottenham Hotspur have unexpectedly reached out to sign a high-earning Chelsea player in the final days of the transfer window, as Spurs scramble to secure an outfield addition for manager Ange Postecoglou.

Tottenham face transfer rejections from Mathys Tel and Fikayo Tomori

The transfer window has been a frustrating one for the north London club, as reports indicate that Postecoglou’s team could be facing their third public rejection in recent days.

Chairman Daniel Levy traveled to Germany on Friday to try to convince Mathys Tel to join Tottenham, according to Fabrizio Romano and other sources. However, the French forward turned down Spurs’ offer despite an agreed £50m deal with Bayern Munich.

Levy returned home without success, but Tottenham quickly moved on by opening talks to sign AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori.

The negotiations between clubs were progressing well, with Italian journalist Daniele Longo and other Serie A sources reporting that Spurs had agreed to a £25m offer with Milan.

However, Tomori also reportedly rejected the move to Tottenham (according to Gianluca Di Marzio), leaving uncertainty around the potential transfer.

This series of setbacks has led to questions about why Spurs have left these pursuits so late in the window. Desperation is evident at Tottenham, with Postecoglou’s team now turning to Chelsea for potential solutions.

Reports suggest Tottenham are considering a late loan deal for Axel Disasi, and it seems they have now approached Chelsea to help address their lack of forward options as well.

Tottenham make surprise move for Christopher Nkunku. According to journalist Graeme Bailey, writing for The Boot Room, Tottenham have now expressed interest in £195,000-per-week winger Christopher Nkunku, who is reportedly looking to leave Chelsea.

Tottenham’s enquiry for Nkunku in the past day has been described as a “shock” move, though they face tough competition for the French forward’s signature.

It is uncertain how likely it is for Spurs to pursue an Nkunku deal, but his versatility and skill would make him an excellent late addition. The France international has scored 13 goals across all competitions this season.

“His qualities are incredible,” said Achim Beierlorzer, former assistant coach at RB Leipzig.

“In just a few weeks this season, he has made significant progress and is now considered a world-class player.”
