Knicks Reveal Disheartening Update During Lakers

Knicks Announce Unfortunate News During Lakers Game

The New York Knicks are hosting the Los Angeles Lakers on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Heading into this matchup, the Knicks were on a five-game winning streak, improving their overall record to 32-16.

Boasting one of the NBA’s strongest starting lineups, the Knicks have significant firepower in their group of Jalen Brunson, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges, OG Anunoby, and Karl-Anthony Towns. As of Saturday, this lineup had logged 797 minutes together, the most of any five-man unit in the league (according to NBA official data).

Unfortunately for New York, a key member of this lineup was forced to leave the game against the Lakers.

New York Knicks forward OG Anunoby (8) and Los Angeles Lakers forward LeBron James (23).

With 10:38 remaining in the third quarter, Anunoby exited the game and headed to the locker room after what appeared to be a non-contact lower leg injury.

“OG Anunoby headed to the locker room after an injury on a non-contact play,” NBA on ESPN captioned a post on X, accompanied by a replay of the injury.

An ironman for the Knicks, Anunoby had appeared in all 49 games this season, averaging 16.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, and 2.0 assists in 36.7 minutes per game before Saturday. Shortly after Anunoby left the game, the Knicks shared the disappointing news that he would not be returning.

“OG Anunoby (right foot sprain) will be out for the remainder of tonight’s game,” the Knicks confirmed on X.

Diagnosing the injury as a right foot sprain, the Knicks ruled their starting forward out for the remainder of the contest against Los Angeles. Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau will likely provide an update after the game.
