Aaron Glenn nearly swore at Dan Campbell after being named Jets head coach.

Aaron Glenn understood the challenges that came with being a head coach, but that didn’t stop him from almost swearing at Dan Campbell after taking the job.

From the moment Aaron Glenn became the Detroit Lions’ defensive coordinator, he appeared destined for a head coaching role.

His consistent success led to multiple interviews in each hiring cycle, and it was only a matter of time before he found the right opportunity. Among all the potential head coaching jobs, Glenn had one team in mind more than any other.

Now, Glenn has indeed landed that role, leaving the Lions to become the head coach of the New York Jets—the team that originally drafted him and helped him transition into a scouting role after his playing career.

Stepping into the head coach position naturally brings a new set of duties and pressures, ones that a coordinator doesn’t face.

The job is far more than just the technical side of the game, and the most successful coaches excel in areas beyond just game planning and player strategy.

Although Glenn is sure to excel in those aspects, the leadership responsibilities are new to him.

Aaron Glenn shares a humorous conversation with Dan Campbell after accepting the Jets job

Glenn spoke with Jim Miller, Pat Kirwan, and Rick Neuheisel on Sirius XM NFL Radio’s “Movin’ The Chains” show, which aired on Friday.

During the interview, Glenn discussed a phone call he made to Dan Campbell after accepting the Jets’ head coaching position.

“The first thing I told Dan Campbell was that I called him and almost cursed, saying, ‘Why didn’t you warn me about everything else that comes with this?’

I’m joking, of course, but I haven’t had to talk about Cover 2 or Cover 1 or any of that stuff. It’s everything else that comes with the job,” Glenn said.

“But I’ll tell you, I’m excited every day to wake up and be the coach of this team. Not many people can say that, so I’m not taking it for granted.”

Glenn also reflected on his former mentor and expressed his desire to carry on his leadership style with the Jets.

“Let me start by saying, Dan Campbell is as authentic as they come, and you don’t see that often in this business,” Glenn noted. “That’s something I want to bring to these players.

I’m just going to be Aaron Glenn, and that’s all I can be. You’ll get Aaron Glenn every single day. I’m demanding, but not demeaning, and I’ll do everything I can to help these players improve in their craft every day, which will help us grow as a team.”
