Jared Goff, QB for the Lions, Announces New Career Path Outside of Football

Detroit Lions quarterback Jared Goff is taking advantage of the offseason to pursue a new career opportunity beyond football.

As the Detroit Lions enter their offseason, players have the chance to explore other activities outside of their sport and enjoy some personal time. Goff, however, is using his break to dive into a new venture that has nothing to do with the NFL.

On January 31, Goff shared the news of his latest project via social media, revealing that he is joining a major Detroit-based investment group. While Goff hails from California, he’s committed to his new Detroit roots.

Goff revealed he’s becoming involved in an investment group led by Detroit Pistons owner Tom Gores, with the goal of bringing the WNBA back to Detroit.

“I’m thrilled to join this inspiring group of leaders as we work to bring a WNBA team to Detroit! This is an incredible opportunity for our vibrant community and the most passionate fans in the country!” Goff wrote on Instagram.

The investment group includes Gores, Goff, former NBA stars Grant Hill and Chris Webber, and Lions owner Sheila Ford Hamp.

Webber also shared the news on Instagram, saying, “Shout out to Tom Gores and the Ownership Group. We are focused on bringing a WNBA team Back to Detroit.”

He expressed his excitement for Michigan fans and women’s basketball, adding, “So excited for girldads like me… Was going to post about how much fun it is coaching my daughters 2nd grade team… THE CHEETAH GIRLS… But now I can’t wait until our next practice to tell them about this!”

Detroit hosted a WNBA team, the Detroit Shock, from 1998 to 2009, and the franchise won WNBA championships in 2003, 2006, and 2008.

After moving to Tulsa from 2010 to 2015, the team became the Dallas Wings in 2016. During its time in Detroit, the Shock was consistently among the league’s top teams in attendance, ranking first for three seasons.

The WNBA has seen growing popularity, thanks in part to stars like Caitlin Clark, Angel Reese, and Cameron Brink. With Detroit’s successful history in the league, this investment group sees a promising opportunity to bring a WNBA team back to the city.

G off’s wife, Christen, also joined the bid and expressed her excitement on social media with the hashtag “LetsBringIt” and a blue heart emoji.

Detroit isn’t alone in seeking a WNBA franchise, as other cities like Houston, Philadelphia, and Tennessee are also in the running.

Detroit sports are experiencing a surge, from the Detroit Lions’ success to Pistons star Cade Cunningham being recognized as an All-Star this season. With this momentum, it could be the perfect time to add another professional sports team to the city.
