Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions are predicted to add a former All-Pro and Super Bowl champion to their roster for 2025.

Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes may be looking to enhance the offense this offseason, especially at wide receiver. While Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams have established themselves as the top receiving duo, the team has struggled to find consistent depth behind them. With WR3 Tim Patrick set to become a free agent and no clear successor, Detroit could be gearing up to make a significant move in free agency.

Could Cooper Kupp Be the Key Addition?

An intriguing possibility this offseason comes from TWSN’s Marissa Myers, who predicts the Lions will target veteran wide receiver Cooper Kupp if the Los Angeles Rams part ways with him. At 32 years old, Kupp’s production has slightly dipped due to injuries over the last few seasons, but he remains one of the league’s most accomplished receivers.

In 2024, Kupp totaled 710 yards and six touchdowns on 67 receptions, despite playing just 12 games. Although his injury history is a concern, the Lions might view him as the perfect complement to their already potent offense. With a Super Bowl ring and a 2021 Triple Crown (catches/yards/touchdowns) to his name, Kupp would bring vast experience and leadership to the receiving group, as well as another reliable target for quarterback Jared Goff.

Detroit’s Ideal Fit for Cooper Kupp’s Final Season

If Cooper Kupp is released by the Rams, Detroit could be the ideal destination for him. The Lions’ receiving group already boasts two standout playmakers in St. Brown and Williams, but Kupp could provide the additional weapon in key moments, particularly in high-pressure drives or crucial third-down situations. Kupp would also offer Goff a dependable option, further elevating the Lions’ offense as they aim for Super Bowl contention.

Kupp himself has expressed uncertainty about his future with the Rams, stating recently in a locker room discussion that while he hopes to play in 2025, he’s unsure whether it will be in Los Angeles. His desire to play for a contender matches the Lions’ current trajectory, and Detroit presents a strong opportunity to compete for a title with an offense that is poised to get even better.

A Move That Could Pay Off

Although the Lions have the cap space to pursue Cooper Kupp, his injury history and potential cost will be significant considerations. However, the potential benefits of adding Kupp to an offense already featuring elite receivers like St. Brown and the dynamic Williams are clear. For a team focused on building on a successful 2024 season and pushing for a Super Bowl, Kupp could be the missing piece to help the Lions reach their ultimate goal.

As the offseason unfolds, all eyes will be on whether the Detroit Lions make a move for the former Super Bowl MVP. Should they do so, Kupp could have the opportunity to close out his career on a high note, potentially bringing the Lions closer to their first Super Bowl win in decades.
