Like many others, Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo initially dismissed the shocking news that Shams Charania shared late Saturday night as “fake news.” And like everyone else, the two-time NBA MVP was left stunned when he realized the trade was legitimate, and Luka Doncic was headed to the Los Angeles Lakers while Anthony Davis was being traded to the Dallas Mavericks as part of a major deal.

“I thought it was fake news,” Antetokounmpo said after the Bucks’ 132-119 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies, according to Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “It’s insane. Of course, I’ve faced Luka many times, along with AD and all the players involved in the trade. This is the world we live in. It’s a business, you have to understand that nobody is safe.”

Antetokounmpo also attempted to rationalize the surprising trade involving fellow NBA stars. The “Greek Freak” explained that he understands such bold moves from a team’s perspective but emphasized that players requesting trades should be treated equally for the sake of fairness.

“I get the business side of basketball, that sometimes teams must make decisions that benefit their organization and position, along with their pursuit of greatness and championships. But at the same time, it works both ways. You can’t have a double standard. When teams make moves they believe will bring in another player to help them win, a player who thinks they can win a championship with a different team should not be criticized for not being loyal or letting people down. History has shown that you must do what’s best for you and your family and what’s most important for winning.”

Antetokounmpo might have unintentionally hinted at his own future with the Bucks, and many Milwaukee fans are now concerned, fearing he could leave the team.

“LMAOOOO HE IS GONE,” one fan wrote.

Another added: “Giannis can’t even speak this much English.”

One fan shared: “Brook Lopez has this man reevaluating his future it’s never been more over.”

“All I heard is Lakers come and get me,” another user posted.

“Oh great, I was really hoping he would elaborate on this extensively and hint about leaving soon,” shared a different commenter.
