Lakers Express Interest in Raptors’ Center
The Los Angeles Lakers recently participated in one of the biggest NBA trades in years, but their dealings are far from over.
Recognizing the need for a solid big man to round out their roster, the Lakers are focused on providing LeBron James and Luka Doncic the best chance to make it back to the Finals.
While the Lakers are eyeing several potential stars, securing them will prove to be a major challenge.
According to Michael Grange, the Lakers have shown interest in Jakob Poeltl of the Toronto Raptors, but the Raptors are unlikely to part with him unless they receive a very strong offer.
“The Lakers have shown interest, but the expectation is that the Raptors are waiting for an offer that includes a first-round pick (likely with some protection), and the Lakers’ only available pick is a 2031 first-rounder they have been holding onto for years,” Grange reported, citing NBACentral.
The Raptors reportedly view Poeltl as a “crucial asset” for their future, meaning they won’t trade him unless the Lakers present an irresistible offer.
They are seeking at least a first-round pick, but the Lakers are hesitant to let go of theirs.
It’s surprising that the Lakers still have a first-round pick after their trade with the Dallas Mavericks for Doncic.
Many had expected the Mavericks to request multiple picks, along with Anthony Davis and Max Christie, but they let Doncic go for much less.
As a result, the Lakers are left with one remaining first-round pick, and they will be extremely cautious about how they use it.
Poeltl, who is averaging 14.4 points and 10.3 rebounds per game this season, could significantly strengthen the Lakers, but acquiring him would require a substantial trade.
Will they make a move now, or will they hold off and reassess the market in the offseason?
