Bears set to hire Richard Smith as linebackers coach
Experienced linebackers coach Richard Smith is joining the Chicago Bears.
Brad Biggs of the Chicago Tribune reported on Tuesday that Smith will be hired by the Bears. Smith’s career includes a previous tenure with the Broncos in 2011, when Bears defensive coordinator Dennis Allen held the same position in Denver.
Smith has spent the last three years with the Colts and coached linebackers with the Raiders and Chargers for the previous five seasons. He has also served as defensive coordinator for the Falcons, Texans, and Dolphins, and has more than 30 years of experience as an NFL assistant, including time as a special teams coach.
Alongside Smith, the Bears have added several seasoned coaches, providing significant support to the new head coach in his first season.
