Big Move Ahead: NFL Executive Foresees Lions Targeting $80 Million Former All-Pro

**BOLD MOVE: NFL Executive Predicts Lions May Pursue $80 Million Former All-Pro**

During the 2025 NFL offseason, the Detroit Lions are expected to be connected to several high-profile players they could acquire.

With available cap space and a solid 15-2 finish in 2024, the team is in a strong position.

Already linked to some of the top defensive targets of the offseason, the Lions are now being mentioned as a possible landing spot for a former All-Pro on the offensive side of the ball.

On the February 4 episode of Sportscaster, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler shared (via A to Z Sports’ Mike Payton) that an NFL executive told him the Lions might be a team in contention for Los Angeles Rams wide receiver Cooper Kupp.

One executive brought up Detroit to me due to the connection with Jared Goff,” Fowler explained. “They entered the league together and made Pro Bowls together. That strong bond could create a great dynamic.”

Kupp recently disclosed that the Rams informed him of their intention to trade him this offseason.

Personally, I’m not convinced Kupp would end up in Detroit.

While I understand the link with Jared Goff, it’s unclear where Kupp would fit in this offense.

The Lions already have two 1,000-yard receivers, including one of the league’s best.

In addition, Sam LaPorta has averaged 800 yards per season over his first two years in the NFL.

Plus, with David Montgomery and Jahmyr Gibbs leading a run-heavy offense supported by one of the league’s top offensive lines, it’s difficult to see how Kupp would add enough value to make this a top priority.

Given the established weapons in the offense, it’s hard to understand why the Lions would prioritize Kupp or how this would benefit them.

If the move does happen, Detroit would gain a player who was once among the top receivers in the league, having posted 67 catches for 710 yards last season. But it seems there might be better options for both Kupp and the Lions.
