‘It’s Going to Be Special’: LeBron James Talks About the Shocking Trade That Shook the NBA
LEBRON JAMES EXPRESSED his excitement about teaming up with Luka Doncic at the Los Angeles Lakers after the unexpected trade that has left the basketball world in disbelief.
Doncic was officially introduced by the Lakers on Tuesday following a stunning deal that saw Anthony Davis move to the Dallas Mavericks.
James was informed about the trade late on Saturday and admitted on Tuesday that he was still processing the news in his first public remarks since the deal.
“It’s been a whirlwind,” James shared shortly after leading the Lakers to a 122-97 victory over the Los Angeles Clippers.
“It’s been tough, especially for me. I had six years with AD (Anthony Davis), we won a championship together, and he’s one of my closest friends.
“But it’s a business, and we understand that. That’s just how basketball works.”
However, James also shared his enthusiasm about the idea of pairing up with Doncic, who was watching from the sidelines on Tuesday as the Lakers claimed another win.
“It’s going to be special,” James said. “We’re going to attract a lot of attention.
“Our ability to score, rebound, and distribute — it’s going to make things easier for our teammates, and that’s our goal.
“We want to create opportunities where teammates just need to catch, finish, dunk, or shoot — it’s our job to guide them each night.
“Luka is a top-tier player — 25 years old, still not in his prime, and he’s already accomplished so much in this league.
“I’m glad to have him here, and LA is thrilled to have him. Honestly, it still feels a bit unreal.”
Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said earlier on Tuesday that Doncic, who has been sidelined since December 25 due to a calf injury, could be ready to play soon.
Reports suggest that Doncic may be fit to make his debut against the Indiana Pacers on Saturday.
