**Ben Johnson Named Assistant Coach of the Year**

 

Ben Johnson was honored as Assistant Coach of the Year on Thursday night at the NFL Honors. Currently the head coach of the Bears, Johnson is the first assistant coach from the Lions to win the award, which was introduced in 2014. He garnered 364 points, securing 29 out of 50 first-place votes. Vikings defensive coordinator Brian Flores placed second with 143 points and 3 first-place votes, while former Lions defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn came in third with 110 points and 6 first-place votes. Eagles defensive coordinator Vic Fangio finished fourth (109 points, 3 votes), followed by Bills offensive coordinator Joe Brady (73, 2 votes), Bucs offensive coordinator Liam Coen (69, 2 votes), Chiefs defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo (39, 2 votes), Ravens offensive coordinator Todd Monken (37, 1 vote), and Commanders offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury (32, 1 vote).

Johnson spent six seasons with the Lions, including the past three as the offensive coordinator.

In 2024, the Lions set new franchise records for total points (564), touchdowns (70), first downs (410), and total net yards (6,962). The team led the NFL in points, points per game (33.2), touchdowns, first downs, and ranked second in total offense per game (409.5) and passing offense per game (263.2). Additionally, five different Lions players each scored at least seven touchdowns, tying an NFL record.
