Jared Goff and Christen Harper are expecting their first child!

The Detroit Lions quarterback and his wife shared the exciting news exclusively with PEOPLE at the NFL Honors red carpet on Thursday, Feb. 5, in New Orleans. The couple revealed that they’re expecting a baby girl, who will arrive in early summer.

Goff, 30, expressed his enthusiasm about the upcoming Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs, saying it’s nice to be around other great players despite the Lions’ playoff exit in January. “I wish we were still playing, but this is nice to be here,” Goff admitted. After the Lions were knocked out of the playoffs by the Washington Commanders on Jan. 17, Goff is now focusing on his off-season.

What excites him most now is becoming a father. “I’m looking forward to becoming a dad,” the NFL star shared, while Harper, 31, added, “We’re just excited to enjoy this special time together and soak up every second.”

Harper, a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue model, also revealed that they’re expecting a baby girl due at the start of summer. Goff shared that he’s always dreamed of being a father, and now that it’s happening, he can’t wait to experience it. “I know it’ll add a new perspective to life, and it’ll be great.”

He also shared that he thinks Harper will be an amazing mom, adding, “I can’t wait to watch her be a mom.” Harper echoed those sentiments, saying, “I know he’s going to be the best, and it’s just exciting to do this together as a team.”

The couple met on the exclusive dating app Raya in 2019 and began dating shortly after. Three years later, Goff proposed during a vacation with friends, and the couple announced their engagement in June 2022. They married in Ojai, Calif., on June 22, 2024.
