Lakers Determine LeBron James’ Status After Luka Doncic Development

Earlier this week, Los Angeles Lakers star LeBron James made history by becoming the oldest player in NBA history to score over 40 points in a game, surpassing the record set by Michael Jordan in 2003. “What do I think? That I’m old,” James joked with reporters after scoring 42 points on 14-for-25 shooting. “That’s what I think. I need a glass of wine and some sleep, that’s the first thing I think about.” James was 34 days older than Jordan was when he scored 43 points for the Washington Wizards in February 2003. “The biggest thing is we got the win, obviously,” James said after surpassing Jordan’s record. “But throughout my career, whenever I’ve been compared to the greats, it’s always humbling. It reminds me of where I started. I love this game so much, so it’s a pretty cool feeling.”

While James celebrates this milestone, it might have come at a cost. On Friday, the Lakers announced that they had downgraded the future Hall of Famer to “doubtful” for Saturday’s game against the Indiana Pacers due to left ankle soreness. “LeBron James has been downgraded to doubtful for the Lakers’ game Saturday vs. Indiana with left ankle soreness, the Lakers announced,” ESPN’s Davis McMenamin reported.

This news follows a change in ESPN’s broadcast schedule, which had been altered to feature the Lakers-Pacers game in a prime time slot, anticipating Luka Doncic’s debut with the Lakers. However, Doncic is now “targeting” Monday’s game against the Utah Jazz for his first appearance. It seems neither Doncic nor James will be playing in this afternoon’s game, despite ESPN’s efforts to highlight the matchup.
