Myles Garrett made waves within the Cleveland Browns organization and fanbase when he officially requested a trade, signaling that after eight years with the team, he feels it’s time to move on and pursue a Super Bowl elsewhere, as he doesn’t believe the Browns are in a position to contend.
Although it’s still too early to predict where Garrett will go, one Detroit Lions star seems to show little interest in adding him to their roster.
In a recent interview with the Detroit Free Press at the NFL Honors ceremony, Lions edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson quickly dismissed any talk of Garrett joining the Lions.
“Everyone’s asking me about that. I don’t know,” Hutchinson said. “I don’t think — you can’t have that many dudes on one D-line, I don’t know. Who knows, but I think it’s very unlikely.”
Though this may not be what Lions fans were hoping to hear, Hutchinson might simply be trying to keep expectations in check and stay grounded.
Hutchinson and Garrett would form an unstoppable pass-rushing duo, instantly becoming one of the best in NFL history.
However, the Lions’ front office might find it hard to justify such a move, especially since Hutchinson is already excelling in his role.
In a recent interview with the Detroit Free Press at the NFL Honors ceremony, Lions superstar edge rusher Aidan Hutchinson shut down any talk of Garrett heading to Detroit before the rumors could gain any traction.
“Everyone’s asking me about that. I don’t know,” Hutchinson said. “I don’t think — you can’t have that many dudes on one D-line, I don’t know. Who knows, but I think it’s very unlikely.”
Though this response may not be what Lions fans want to hear, Hutchinson may just be trying to manage his expectations and remain realistic.
Together, Hutchinson and Garrett would instantly become the most dangerous pass-rushing pair in the NFL, likely one of the best ever.
However, the Lions’ management might find it difficult to make a case for such a move, especially considering Hutchinson’s current strong performance.
As a result, the Browns will likely need to consider other options.
The price to acquire Garrett will likely be steep for any team willing to make the trade, but regardless of what transpires, the Browns will need to finalize a move before tensions rise further.
Garrett doesn’t want to be part of a rebuilding process, but moving him could be crucial to accelerating the Browns’ rebuild.
