Will Anthony Davis play in his first game for the Mavericks against the Rockets?

The Dallas Mavericks will face the Houston Rockets on Saturday afternoon, marking their first home game since Nico Harrison made the surprising decision to trade Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers. The crowd is expected to be hostile, with many Mavericks fans upset about the trade, but the team still has plenty of talent when healthy.

Anthony Davis has yet to play for the Mavericks due to an abdominal strain since the trade. He was considered questionable before Thursday’s game against the Boston Celtics, but was later ruled out. However, he has now been upgraded to probable for the upcoming game against the Rockets. During his introductory press conference, Davis stated he’d be playing, so it remains to be seen if he will suit up.

All other players listed on Dallas’ injury report will be unavailable: Dereck Lively II (right ankle stress fracture), Dwight Powell (right hip strain), and Caleb Martin (right hip strain). Martin’s injury turned out to be more severe than anticipated when Dallas traded for him earlier in the week, but despite the option to void the trade, Nico Harrison decided to proceed with it.

However, P.J. Washington will return after missing the previous two games due to personal reasons, as he and his wife welcomed their new baby. He’ll be important in bringing some positive energy to the game.

The Rockets will be missing Jabari Smith Jr. (left metacarpal fracture) and Fred VanVleet (right ankle strain), two key starters for a team that began the season as one of the strongest in the West.

The game between Dallas and Houston will begin just after 2 p.m. CST at the American Airlines Center.
