Is Andy Reid Retiring After Super Bowl LIX? Here’s What He Said
For the fifth time during his tenure with the Kansas City Chiefs, head coach Andy Reid has guided his team to the Super Bowl.
This time, he and the Chiefs will square off against the Philadelphia Eagles, a team they faced in Super Bowl LVII. Reid previously coached the Eagles for 14 years. Two years ago, Kansas City triumphed over Philadelphia in a thrilling 38-35 battle that marked the beginning of a potential historic run for the Chiefs, who are aiming to become the first franchise to win three consecutive Super Bowls.
As the big game approaches, fans have started to speculate whether Reid will retire after the Super Bowl, should the Chiefs emerge victorious.
Team owner Clark Hunt has stated that he doesn’t believe Reid is nearing retirement, despite persistent rumors circulating about his future ahead of Super Bowl LVIII last year.
“He’s always said that he’ll know when it’s the right time, and I’m sure he’ll tell me before he tells anyone else,” Hunt remarked. “I don’t feel he’s close to being finished.”
Reid, for his part, has already made it clear where he plans to be when the 2025 NFL season starts – on the Chiefs’ sideline.
“Yes, I’ll be back,” Reid confirmed to reporters on Tuesday. Reid explained that his decision isn’t motivated by the desire to pass Bill Belichick for most playoff wins – Belichick has 31, while Reid has 28.
“That’s not part of it,” Reid said. “I love teaching. I don’t get too caught up in stats or records. I enjoy being with the guys. I love football, the game. You can’t put in the hours we do and not love it.”
