Amon-Ra St. Brown’s comments fuel discussion about Lions facing Eagles in season opener.
Updated February 12, 2025, 4:51 PM—The Detroit Lions fought through the 2024 NFL regular season to secure the NFC North’s best record, only to be plagued by nearly 20 injuries in a 45-31 Divisional Round defeat to the Washington Commanders.
On Wednesday, star wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown discussed the 2025 NFL season opener on his St. Brown Podcast, joined by his brothers Osiris and Equanimeous.
During their conversation, they speculated on potential opponents, with Amon-Ra hinting that there’s a strong possibility the Lions will kick off the season at Lincoln Financial Field against the reigning champion Philadelphia Eagles.
“You don’t want that smoke,” Equanimeous St. Brown said, reacting to the idea of Amon-Ra facing the Eagles in the season opener.
All three brothers agreed that Detroit is the likely pick for Philadelphia’s first opponent, leading to a remark from Equanimeous that sparked debate.
“You could really see what could’ve happened in the NFC Championship—well, not really, but kind of…” Equanimeous St. Brown remarked. “Yeah, with a healthy defense…
Their team won’t change much, maybe a little,” Amon-Ra added. “But I’m saying, with our healthy defense, you’d see how that (expletive) works,” he continued, emphasizing that 13 Lions defenders were injured.
Fans took to the comments section, passionately defending their teams. “I truly believe a healthy Lions team would’ve won the Super Bowl,” one fan wrote. “They were missing their best player (Aidan Hutchinson) all season.”
“Gonna file this under ‘(expletive) around and find out,’” another fan commented. “We’ll check back after they get stomped by the Eagles.” “Eagles will crush the kitties,” someone else added.
“Homie… you lost before the finals, so maybe your team isn’t the real deal,” another wrote. “They just won the Super Bowl.”
“I love you, Amon-Ra, but you need to calm down a little,” another fan commented. “Let’s make it happen,” another reader added in the comments section.
