Klay Thompson Sends Powerful Message to Mavericks After Beating Steph Curry and Warriors
Klay Thompson’s Message to Mavericks After Beating Steph Curry, Warriors. Thompson and the Dallas Mavericks are facing a few weeks without Anthony Davis, who has been sidelined with an adductor strain.
With Davis out, the Mavericks will move forward without their All-Star power forward and Luka Doncic, who was traded to the Los Angeles Lakers for Davis.
On Wednesday, the Mavericks faced the Golden State Warriors for the third time this season, with Thompson getting the upper hand over his former team. He helped Dallas secure a 111-107 victory, bringing his record to 2-1 against his “Splash Brother.”
Defeating the Warriors likely held extra significance for Thompson. The five-time NBA All-Star played 11 seasons with Golden State, winning four championships and contributing to one of the NBA’s greatest dynasties.
After the game, the Mavericks posted a video of Thompson’s reaction to the win. The former Washington State player was seen celebrating with fans before being asked how the victory felt, delivering a powerful message to his team.
“It felt great,” Thompson said. “Let’s get one more and head into the break with some momentum. Especially with [the team] banged up, we’re still out there competing, you know?”
Thompson ended the game with 17 points, shooting 6-of-19 from the field and 5-of-14 from three, along with seven rebounds and two assists. However, it was Kyrie Irving who led the way for Dallas, scoring a game-high 42 points and adding seven rebounds.
Curry, in the loss to his former teammate, finished with 25 points on 9-of-23 shooting, five rebounds, and eight assists. This marked the Warriors’ first loss with Curry, Draymond Green, and Jimmy Butler all playing together.
Thompson and the Mavericks (29-26) will play their final game before All-Star Weekend, hosting Tyler Herro and the Miami heat on Thursday.
