Detroit Lions Targeting Another Browns Trade Candidate

It seems that the Detroit Lions and Cleveland Browns front offices might have a lot of discussions this offseason.

While Myles Garrett is the standout player in the Browns’ trade rumors, he’s not the only potential player Cleveland could part ways with as they look to address their salary cap issues. One of these other trade options may catch the Lions’ interest.

In a recent article on top trade candidates this offseason, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox listed the Lions as a possible suitor for Browns cornerback Greg Newsome II.

For Detroit to pursue Newsome, they would have to overlook a rough 2024 season from him. He allowed opposing quarterbacks to complete 62.7% of their passes against him and gave up 9.6 yards per attempt.

However, his earlier seasons suggest that this could have been an anomaly. In 2023, he held opponents to a 56.7% completion rate and just 6.7 yards per target. In 2022, those figures were 58% and 5.9 yards per target.

The Lions could certainly use help at cornerback, having allowed 7.2 yards per attempt last season, and with Carlton Davis potentially leaving in free agency after a standout year in 2024.

Whether Newsome could be the answer depends on which version of him the Lions believe they will get. If the price is right, taking a chance on a young corner with potential might be worth the gamble.
