Former Ohio State football offensive lineman Ben Christman dies at age 21
Ben Christman, a UNLV offensive lineman who spent two seasons at Ohio State, died Tuesday. He was 21.
The Clark County coroner’s office confirmed Christman died. No cause of death was given.
UNLV announced Christman had been found dead at his off-campus apartment.
In a statement released by the school, UNLV coach Dan Mullen said, “Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing. Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program.”
Ohio State coach Ryan Day said he was in “complete shock” following the news.
“I’m just crushed for his family,” Day said. “I know the guys who came in with him are crushed as well.
He was a very good football player, but a better person. To see us lose such a good young man like that, it’s heartbreaking. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family and his close friends. I can’t imagine.”
After participating in spring practice with the Buckeyes in 2023, Christman transferred to Kentucky. He left for UNLV earlier this winter for his remaining collegiate eligibility.
Christman was the top-ranked offensive lineman in Ohio when he signed with the Buckeyes as part of their 2021 recruiting class.
He did not appear in a game while he redshirted as a freshman at Ohio State in 2021. In a rout of Indiana in the following year, he rotated at right guard.
A native of Akron, he attended Revere High School in Richfield before enrolling at Ohio State.
