Detroit Shooting Leaves One Woman Dead, Suspect in Custody
A tragic shooting on Detroit’s west side resulted in the death of a woman and the arrest of a suspect, who initially barricaded himself inside a home.

Authorities responded to reports of gunfire near Washburn and Santa Clara around 9:05 a.m. Upon arrival, officers discovered that the suspect had locked himself inside a residence.
Residents, including Katrina, were unable to return to their homes following the incident. “When they said bullets were flying, I didn’t want to come back. They had the area blocked off, so I just stayed away,” she said. Katrina, who has lived in the neighborhood for 14 years, expressed concerns about the rising violence.
The crime scene was near Mumford High School. Witnesses say the victim appeared to have been shot while inside a vehicle, which then crashed into a front porch. Officials confirmed that she was pronounced dead at the scene.
After a standoff lasting several hours, law enforcement persuaded the suspect to exit the house, leading to his immediate arrest.
