Former General Manager Projects Myles Garrett Trade to Lions

Former GM Predicts Lions Will Acquire Myles Garrett in Offseason Trade

The Detroit Lions have emerged as a potential destination for Myles Garrett in an offseason trade with the Cleveland Browns, according to former NFL general manager and ESPN analyst Mike Tannenbaum.

Lions in the Mix for a Blockbuster Deal

With their current roster, the Lions are in a strong position to pursue Garrett, but executing a trade won’t be easy. The Browns remain committed to keeping their star defender, making negotiations challenging for interested teams.

Despite Cleveland’s stance, some analysts believe Garrett will eventually be moved. Tannenbaum took it a step further, confidently predicting on Get Up that the Lions will acquire the reigning Defensive Player of the Year.

“This just makes too much sense,” Tannenbaum stated. “Detroit has a real shot at winning now, but to compete with teams like San Francisco, Philadelphia, Green Bay, and Minnesota, they need to strengthen their pass rush. Hutchinson is coming off an injury, and while I like the Za’Darius Smith addition, bringing in a future Hall of Famer in his 20s could be the difference-maker. If you’re Cleveland and looking to rebuild, stockpiling assets is the way to go.”

While Detroit has been frequently mentioned as a prime landing spot for Garrett, Tannenbaum’s projection is the boldest yet.

Would Myles Garrett Push the Lions Over the Top?

Could Garrett be the final piece Detroit needs to contend for a championship? ESPN’s Bill Barnwell believes so. In a ranking of potential trade destinations (subscription required), Barnwell placed the Lions among the top contenders and laid out why the move makes sense.

“Davenport is a free agent, and while Hutchinson still has one year left on his rookie deal before a potential fifth-year option, the Lions might be concerned about his ability to return to peak form post-injury. Though they don’t have a quarterback on a rookie contract, they remain one of the league’s youngest teams, with key contributors on affordable deals. With $56.7 million in projected cap space, they have the financial flexibility to trade for Garrett and extend his contract. It’s a big gamble, but if Detroit believes they’re one player away, is there a better option than Garrett?”

Offensively, the Lions remain stacked, aside from potential shifts on the offensive line. However, their defense remains uncertain. With Hutchinson and Alim McNeill returning from injuries and lingering concerns in the secondary, a major addition could be necessary. The Eagles’ dominant pass rush played a key role in their Super Bowl success, further emphasizing the importance of elite defensive pressure.

Garrett could be a game-changer in Detroit, and with a former executive already predicting a deal, all eyes are on whether the Lions will make their move.
