Lions WR Ready to Face Off Against Super Bowl Champs Eagles in Week 1

The Lions wide receiver mentioned on a recent episode of his podcast that he’s hoping Detroit’s 2025 season starts with a game in Philadelphia against the Eagles, who claimed the Super Bowl title on Sunday by defeating the Kansas City Chiefs.

The NFL typically schedules the Super Bowl champion to host the season opener the following year. The league has already revealed some matchups for 2025, including a Lions vs. Eagles game.

The final step is to confirm that this game will be the opener, something St. Brown considers obvious.

“Eagles have the home opener next year because they won the Super Bowl,” St. Brown said. “Let me read you the list of teams that could be in that first game: Commanders, Cowboys, Giants, Bears, Lions, Raiders, Rams, Broncos. Out of all those teams, who do you put in there if you’re the NFL?”

The Lions and Eagles didn’t meet in the 2024 regular season as both earned the top two seeds in the NFC playoffs. A potential playoff matchup was derailed when the Lions lost to the Commanders in the divisional round.

St. Brown hinted that the Lions would relish the opportunity to face the Eagles with a fully healthy defense, after injuries plagued their unit in the 2024 playoffs.

“You would see how our healthy defense operates,” St. Brown said.

The Lions were last part of the NFL’s season opener in 2023, when they stunned the defending Super Bowl champion Chiefs with a road victory.
