Seven academy players named in Manchester United’s squad for Tottenham clash

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has included seven academy players in his squad for today’s Premier League match against Tottenham Hotspur, with promising striker Chido Obi being one of them.

According to the Manchester Evening News on Saturday evening, a second coach reportedly left Carrington carrying academy players. Senior players had earlier been forced to abandon their plans to travel by train due to a signaling issue, so they had to take a road trip to London instead.

With Manuel Ugarte, Kobbie Mainoo, Toby Collyer, and Amad all sidelined due to injury and illness, United have called up Elyh Harrison, Harry Amass, Tyler Fredricson, Jack Fletcher, Sekou Kone, Jack Moorhouse, and Obi to the first-team squad, placing them all on the bench.

Injuries have left United’s squad significantly depleted ahead of today’s match, with Victor Lindelof being the only senior player on the bench. New January signing Ayden Heaven is also among the substitutes.

Amass, Fletcher, and Obi all played for the Under-18s on Wednesday, helping them secure a 5-1 win over Chelsea in the FA Youth Cup. Obi is the standout selection due to the attention he has garnered since his move from Arsenal last year. He netted a hat-trick in the FA Youth Cup victory earlier this week.

The 17-year-old has been the standout player in United’s FA Youth Cup campaign this season, scoring seven goals in just three matches.
