Kevin Durant’s Message to Warriors Fans After Declining Trade
It has been over five years since Kevin Durant left the Golden State Warriors for the Brooklyn Nets, but discussions about his time with the Warriors still spark debate.
Durant spent three seasons with Golden State after his controversial exit from the Oklahoma City Thunder, playing a key role in leading the team to two consecutive championships (2017 and 2018). He was also close to securing a historic three-peat before a torn Achilles injury during the 2019 NBA Finals against the Toronto Raptors derailed that goal.
Ahead of the NBA trade deadline, rumors circulated about a potential reunion between Durant and the Warriors, but the two-time Finals MVP reportedly shut them down (via ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk).
Despite changing teams twice since 2019, speculation about Durant’s relationship with the Warriors’ fanbase and organization has continued. However, his return to Chase Center for the NBA’s 74th All-Star Game may have put an end to that chatter.
Durant reconnected with former teammate Steph Curry during the All-Star Game and received a warm reception from the crowd. After the event, the 15-time All-Star spoke about his bond with Warriors fans, dismissing any idea of lingering resentment.
“I never thought for a second I ain’t get no love out here,” Durant said via Bay Area radio station 95.7 The Game. “All around the country, world, there’s Warriors fans and they always show me love.”
Durant’s comments come amid reports that he rejected a return to the Warriors, despite the Suns’ openness to exploring trade possibilities before the deadline.
With Durant’s name continuing to surface in trade discussions, it remains uncertain whether he would consider returning to Golden State this summer. Averaging 27.3 points, 6.0 rebounds, and 4.2 assists on 53.2% shooting, the 36-year-old would certainly be a valuable asset if he decides to reunite with Curry and the Warriors in the offseason.
