LeBron James Shares New Bold Forecast for Lakers with Luka Doncic

LeBron James conveyed confidence about the recent addition of Luka Doncic to the Los Angeles Lakers, dismissing the idea that the move was intended to prolong his career.

Speaking at an All-Star weekend press event, James emphasized the lift Doncic’s arrival gives the Lakers as they gear up for a critical stretch of games. Los Angeles holds a 32-20 record and sits in fifth place in the Western Conference standings.

As the Lakers’ key player, James has been performing strongly this season, averaging 24.3 points, 9.0 assists, and 7.7 rebounds across 48 games. With the team in the fifth position, every match is crucial as the playoffs draw near.

Doncic, who recently joined the Lakers from the Dallas Mavericks, has already started making an impact despite playing just two games, having been limited due to a calf injury. In those games, he averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds, and 4.0 assists.

“We’ve only played two games so far, and I think he’s still on a minutes restriction after returning from the calf issue. He hasn’t played since Christmas, I believe,” James noted.

When discussing the potential impact of Doncic on his retirement plans, James emphasized his current focus.

“No, I haven’t thought about it that way,” James responded to the speculation about extending his career. “Just the excitement of bringing in a player of his caliber, a generational talent, to our team—it’s something that’s energized me.”

James remains optimistic about the developing chemistry between him and Doncic as the Lakers approach the postseason.

“As [Doncic] continues to get back to full form, I think we could be really strong down the stretch. But we’ll see how things unfold,” James said.
