Lions Draft Another Top Alabama Prospect in 2025 NFL Mock Projection

It’s no secret that Detroit Lions GM Brad Holmes has a strong preference for Alabama players. Since taking over in 2021, he has drafted Jameson Williams (1st Round), Jahmyr Gibbs (1st Round), Brian Branch (2nd Round), and Terrion Arnold (1st Round).

So, will Holmes add another Crimson Tide player when the Lions pick at No. 28 (or earlier if he trades up) in the 2025 NFL Draft? According to Dan Parr of NFL.com, that’s exactly what could happen.

The Detroit Lions Select…

At No. 28 overall, Parr projects the Lions to draft LB/EDGE Jihaad Campbell from Alabama.

“Brad Holmes has picked at least one Alabama player in the last three drafts,” Parr noted. “He keeps the streak alive with Campbell, who can immediately rush off the edge and potentially transition to off-ball linebacker.”

Jihaad Campbell by the Numbers

  • Games in 2024: 13
  • Tackles: 117
  • Tackles for Loss: 12
  • Sacks: 5
  • Interceptions: 1

My Thoughts

If the Lions draft Jihaad Campbell, they’ll land an explosive defender who flies around and makes plays. While Parr lists him as a LB/EDGE, I don’t see him fitting as an EDGE rusher in the NFL. That raises the question: Would Detroit take another linebacker in the first round when they need help on the defensive line (EDGE, DT) or offensive line (if Kevin Zeitler isn’t re-signed)?

Brad Holmes has emphasized selecting the best player available over filling needs. If Campbell is on the board at No. 28, expect the Lions to give him serious consideration.
