New Report Suggests Packers Veteran’s Time in Green Bay is Over

New Report Signals the End for Packers Veteran in Green Bay

The Green Bay Packers are facing an important offseason after their disappointing wild-card loss to the eventual Super Bowl champions. With more than $40 million in cap space, according to OverTheCap, the Packers have room to strengthen their roster. While this amount may decrease after roster cuts, contract restructures, and player extensions, GM Brian Gutekunst will still have opportunities to be active in the market.

One of the biggest decisions the front office faces is what to do with Jaire Alexander. The cornerback is set to earn $17.5 million for the 2025 season, and considering he has only played 14 games over the last two seasons, it’s hard to imagine the Packers being enthusiastic about bringing him back for that amount. ESPN’s Rob Demovsky reported on Saturday that the veteran corner is likely to play his final season with the Packers.

Packers Rumors: Jaire Alexander’s Time in Green Bay is Likely Over

Demovsky pointed out the frustration the Packers have felt with the 28-year-old player. Alexander was a Pro Bowler in his last two healthy seasons, but he has played seven or fewer games in three of the last four years. Despite practicing intermittently since November 17, Alexander did not play again and was placed on injured reserve toward the season’s end.

“There are strong indications that Alexander’s time with the Packers will end without him playing another snap. Multiple team sources have privately voiced their frustration with Alexander’s inability to stay healthy or play through injuries.”

Alexander still has two years left on the four-year extension he signed after his most recent Pro Bowl year. The Packers could release him and save $6 million in cap space this offseason. If they opt for a post-June 1 cut, they could save around $17 million.

There is also a chance the team could stick with him for another season, possibly trading or releasing him for a smaller dead cap hit. However, this does not seem to be the likely outcome. Alexander may have already played his final game in Green Bay.
