Former Detroit Tigers pitcher Jacob Barnes is set to begin his 2025 season by rejoining one of the nine teams he has played for in his career.
The right-handed pitcher has signed a minor league contract with the Toronto Blue Jays and received an invitation to their major league camp, as announced by the team this week. This marks Barnes’s second stint with the Blue Jays, having previously played for them in 2021.
During the 2022 season, Barnes had two separate spells with the Tigers. He started the year with the team but was released in June, only to return in July for another brief stint. Across both periods, he made 22 appearances, pitching 20 2/3 innings with a 6.10 ERA—higher than his career average of 4.68.
The Tigers released him again in late August, after which he finished the season with the Yankees. Since then, he has also spent time with the Cardinals and Nationals. In 2024, he made 63 appearances for the Nationals—the most in a season for him since 2017—posting a 4.36 ERA.
