Kelly Stafford Questions If ‘This Is the End’ of Husband Matthew’s NFL Career After Rams’ Playoff Loss

The wife of Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is reflecting on the family’s future while cherishing the memories they’ve built over 16 years in the NFL.

In an Instagram post, Kelly shared a series of photos from the Rams’ game on Sunday, Jan. 19, against the Philadelphia Eagles, which ended in a 28-22 loss.

“There aren’t enough words to say how proud I am,” Stafford, 35, wrote. “I joke about us being old and tired, but I could never tire of watching you out there or seeing our girls cheer for their daddy.”

She finished with, “I’m wondering if this is the end… guess we’ll find out.”

The photos feature Kelly and Matthew’s daughters—twins Sawyer and Chandler, 7, Harper, 6, and Tyler, 4—smiling alongside their parents on the sidelines of the game that ended the Rams’ Super Bowl aspirations.

As the team enters the offseason, with Matthew’s 37th birthday approaching on Feb. 7, Kelly is focused on planning the family’s next steps.

Matthew, who has spent 16 seasons in the NFL after being selected No. 1 by the Detroit Lions in the 2009 NFL Draft, told reporters after the loss that he would “take some time to think about” his future.

“But I feel like I was playing some pretty good ball,” Stafford said, later adding that he “feels like” he still has more football ahead of him.

As the Staffords consider their future, the family is also reminiscing about their playoff journey, which saw Kelly and the girls battling the flu while still attending a playoff game in Arizona on the team plane earlier this month.

“We were sick on that flight,” Kelly said during the Jan. 15 episode of her podcast, The Morning After. “I felt guilty about being on that plane, thinking about everyone around us and those playing in the game.”

The family—minus Matthew—eventually ended up in the hospital in Arizona but fully recovered.
