Kelly Stafford Speaks on Matthew Stafford’s Potential Retirement

Despite rumors circulating that the Los Angeles Rams quarterback—who led his team to victory in the 2022 Super Bowl—might retire after his recently-completed 16th season, his wife Kelly Stafford shared that he “wants to play again.”

“It’s always a conversation at the end of each season,” she told E! News’ Francesca Amiker in an exclusive interview. “He wants the decision to be a collective one. I always tell him, ‘This is your decision. If I ever felt that I needed you to retire, I’d let you know, but I want you to have the choice.’”

Kelly, 35, who shares twin daughters Chandler and Sawyer, both 7, Hunter, 6, and Tyler, 4, with Matthew, added that no matter what decision her husband makes, his family will always support him.

“I remind him that no matter what he chooses, he has our support at home,” Kelly said. “I tell him, ‘We’re here. Whatever you decide is the right choice. We’ll enjoy life no matter what.’”

“Retirement does sound appealing, I won’t lie,” she admitted. “He’s been at it for 16 years. I’d be lying if part of me didn’t think, ‘Hey, retirement would be nice. Let’s see what the next chapter holds.’”

Kelly also mentioned that Matthew has one role he cherishes more than being a quarterback, saying, “He’s a dad, and that’s probably his favorite job.”

“He misses his kids during the season,” she said. “We took our first trip together to Cabo for three days, and he was like, ‘I’ve got to get back to the kids.’”

“At the end of the day, it’s his choice, and I’ll support it,” she added. “He’s still playing well, so it’s like, ‘Why would you quit now?’”

As Kelly and Matthew get ready for the game with Farm Rich, keep reading for everything you need to know ahead of Super Bowl LIX.

The Big Game is set to take place at New Orleans’ Caesars Superdome.

In the NFL, there are 32 teams across two conferences: The American Football Conference (AFC) with 16 teams, and the National Football Conference (NFC) with 16 teams. The AFC champion faces the NFC champion to determine the NFL champion for the year, marking the end of the football season.

The winning team not only gets bragging rights but also receives the Vince Lombardi trophy—named after the legendary coach who led the Green Bay Packers to victory in the first-ever Super Bowl. Players, coaches, team executives, and other important members also receive Super Bowl rings.

This year, the Kansas City Chiefs are aiming for history, hoping to become the first NFL team to win three consecutive Super Bowls. They won the 2024 and 2023 Super Bowls, bringing their total to four titles, having previously won in 2020 and 1970.

Meanwhile, the Eagles are looking to add another championship to their legacy after winning their first Super Bowl in 2018. This year’s game is especially significant as it’s a rematch following their loss to the Chiefs in the 2023 Super Bowl.

Jalen Hurts, the Eagles’ quarterback since 2020, has been impressive, with seven straight postseason games featuring at least 20 passes and zero interceptions, the longest such streak in NFL history.

Another key player is Saquon Barkley, a running back who is on the verge of breaking Terrell Davis’s single-season rushing record (including playoffs). He and cornerback Cooper DeJean are both celebrating birthdays on Super Bowl Sunday.

Remember A.J. Brown as well, the wide receiver praised for his on-field performance and viral moments off the field, like reading a book during a playoff game.

For the Chiefs, Patrick Mahomes, their quarterback since 2017, has won three Super Bowls (2020, 2023, and 2024) and been named MVP twice by the NFL Honors.

Also keep an eye on Chris Jones, the Chiefs’ defensive tackle with the fourth most sacks in the team’s history. And of course, Travis Kelce, who not only leads the Chiefs in receiving touchdowns but also made headlines for dating Taylor Swift.

Football consists of two sides: offense, which tries to score points, and defense, which tries to stop them.

Teams can score in a few ways. A touchdown, worth six points, happens when the ball is thrown or run into the opponent’s end zone. After a touchdown, the team can earn one extra point with a field goal or two points with a two-point conversion.

If the offense doesn’t score a touchdown but is close enough, they can attempt a field goal, which is worth three points.

A football field is 100 yards long. The offense has four chances (downs) to move the ball at least 10 yards. If they succeed, they get another four downs. If they fail, the defense takes over the ball.

The defense can stop the offense by tackling, blocking, or intercepting the ball. If the offense fumbles, the defense can recover the ball and take over.

If a player breaks the rules, a penalty can be called by the referee.

Who is performing at the Super Bowl Halftime Show?

Just days after winning five Grammys in 2025, the artist behind “Not Like Us” is taking the stage for the Super Bowl Halftime Show.

It’s not his first time performing, either. Kendrick Lamar participated in the 2022 Halftime Show with Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, Eminem, and Mary J. Blige.

Fans are also wondering if Taylor Swift will attend the Super Bowl.

“Yeah, I think everyone is coming,” Travis Kelce’s brother, former Eagles center Jason Kelce, told People on Feb. 4. “I mean, I don’t want to speak for everyone, but I think obviously our whole family. I believe, of course, Trav and Taylor, and his family and friends. Trav always travels with a full crew.”

Although Taylor is originally from Pennsylvania, Travis isn’t concerned about her allegiance.

“I don’t think she has a specific fandom,” Travis told NBC Sports Philadelphia. “I know her dad is an Eagles fan, but I’m sure she’ll support the Chiefs this time.”

As for Taylor’s dad, Scott Swift, Travis hinted that his loyalty might remain undecided, but he suspects he’ll be cheering for the Chiefs.

“I’ll have to ask Scott,” Travis said. “We haven’t discussed it yet, but I think he’ll wear red.”

As the big game approaches, many are wondering if there might be another ring presented during the halftime break. When asked if he planned to propose to Taylor during halftime, Travis playfully replied, “Wouldn’t you like to know?”

With both teams attracting star-studded fans, Taylor won’t be the only famous face in the Superdome. Keep an eye out for more celebrity sightings!
