Matthew Stafford has a chance to reunite with his former coach to turn around the NFL’s worst team.
Despite leading the Los Angeles Rams to the playoffs three times in the past four seasons, including a Super Bowl victory in 2021, quarterback Matthew Stafford has been the center of trade rumors this offseason. While he is up for a new contract, the Rams are a young team and might prefer to build around a younger quarterback.
Should he become available, numerous teams will likely express interest in him. While franchises like the New York Jets or Pittsburgh Steelers, which have talent but lack a quarterback, could appeal to Stafford, he might also be intrigued by the idea of reviving a struggling team.
J ordan Dajani of CBS Sports suggests that the Tennessee Titans could be a good fit for Stafford, given his previous connection with head coach Brian Callahan.
“The Titans were the worst team in football last year, so Nashville may not be the most appealing destination for Stafford,” Dajani wrote. “However, Titans head coach Brian Callahan was Stafford’s quarterbacks coach with the Lions from 2016-17, so the two are familiar with each other.
“Although the Titans hold the No. 1 overall pick in the draft and need a quarterback, that doesn’t necessarily mean they will select Sanders or Ward. It’s already been reported that Tennessee is open to trading out of the pick. The Titans will definitely sign a quarterback in free agency before the draft, but whether it’s someone like Zach Wilson or Aaron Rodgers is still unclear.”
