A report reveals that the Los Angeles Rams are becoming frustrated with Matthew Stafford and his wife Kelly for several reasons.
There has been much speculation about whether former Detroit Lions and current Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford will return next season. Stafford has expressed his desire to keep playing in the NFL in 2025, but this does not guarantee a deal with the Rams.
NFL analyst and sports personality Colin Cowherd recently provided some insight into the Rams’ stance regarding Stafford’s contract extension. Speaking on his show on February 13, Cowherd shared that he had made a few calls and sent some texts to gather information and was planning to propose some moves based on his knowledge.
Cowherd’s main suggestions were Stafford to the New York Giants and Aaron Rodgers to the Los Angeles Rams. Although these ideas were quite bold, what he said about Stafford’s return to the Rams was even more revealing.
According to Cowherd, the Rams’ front office is getting increasingly annoyed by the constant speculation surrounding Stafford, along with his wife Kelly’s public remarks on her podcast, criticizing decisions like the Rams’ move to let Cooper Kupp go.
“The Rams like Matt Stafford, but they’re tiring of the constant quarterback talk, his wife saying things publicly,” Cowherd said. “They’re not thrilled with Cooper Kupp going public with something they wanted to keep quiet.”
He further stated, “They’re kind of over Cooper Kupp, and because of that, a little bit of Matt Stafford too. They like him, but they don’t want to restructure his deal and offer him a new contract.”
As for Stafford potentially joining the Giants, Cowherd explained that the Giants don’t feel confident about their quarterback options and that head coach Brian Daboll and general manager Joe Schoen are under pressure to succeed or face being fired. He believes the Giants will make a move for Stafford.
Shifting to comments made by Stafford’s wife, during the February 6 edition of her podcast, “The Morning After,” Kelly discussed Kupp being informed of the Rams’ plans to trade him.
“I honestly wasn’t planning on discussing this, but hell, why not,” she said during the show. “My husband, like, wants to win. He’s not trying to put a team in a bad situation. If you’re catching my drift, you’re catching my drift.”
She also hinted at Stafford’s potential trade, adding that while she loves “the city of L.A.,” she’s also fond of “an adventure.”
At the end of last season, Stafford signed a deal with the Rams for a short-term raise for the 2024 season, with no firm agreement afterward. Stafford’s cap hit in 2025 stands at $49.6 million, and the Rams could save $27 million if they trade him after June 1 or $23 million if they trade him before June 1.
