David Moyes has warned potential buyers that it would take a “huge amount of money” to lure Jarrad Branthwaite away from Everton, as the manager revealed that the club is “one bill” away from resolving their PSR issues.
Branthwaite has become one of the standout young defenders in the country since making his debut for Everton last season and was the target of two bids from Manchester United during the summer transfer window. These offers were rejected by Everton, which came at a time when the club was struggling with financial difficulties after being penalized twice for PSR violations. However, the Friedkin takeover of Everton in December has nearly resolved these financial concerns, and Moyes says the club is now focused on keeping their best players.
He said: “I don’t know all the details of PSR, but I’m aware that there is still some work to be done. When I arrived in the summer, I knew about it, but I’m hoping we can now stop worrying about it and focus on our future progress. We’ve got one final bill to clear, and then hopefully we’ll be in the clear.”
“Jarrad is an excellent player. If anyone wants to buy him, I’ve said before, they need to bring a lot of money.”
He continued: “We had some very good centre-backs during my previous time at the club. The best teams have solid defenses, and that gives you a chance to win. Jarrad has been playing really well. There are still moments when he shows he’s a young centre-back, but he has a lot of potential. He has already been involved with the England squad before my arrival. He played really well last week, and having Tarky beside him is a great help in his development.”
When asked if the new stadium could attract new players in the summer, Moyes responded: “I hope that potential signings will see Everton in a new light and want to join us. We will need to figure out how to bring in players during the summer.”
