Detroit Lions

Throughout the majority of the 2024 regular season, the Detroit Lions were one of the top teams in the NFL. They demonstrated this by securing the number one seed in the NFC Playoffs with a remarkable 15-2 record.

However, by the time the Lions reached the playoffs, they were forced to play without several key players due to injuries, including their star defender, Aidan Hutchinson. Now fully recovered, the Lions’ Pro Bowl edge rusher is looking to recruit another elite pass rusher to join him in Detroit.

Shortly after the Lions were eliminated from the playoffs in the Divisional Round, Myles Garrett made a trade request from the Cleveland Browns. Naturally, the news of one of the NFL’s top players being available via trade caused a major stir in the sports world.

Garrett is a four-time All-Pro who has registered 10 or more sacks for seven straight seasons, but he has only been to the playoffs twice in his eight years in the league. Garrett is now focusing on joining a contender and making a playoff push.

It didn’t take long for Hutchinson and Garrett to chat about the possibility of playing together for the Lions. Hutchinson recently shared some details about their conversation during an appearance on “The Lautners” podcast.

“We were just talking about what could be. And, although it’s probably unlikely, I would be thrilled to play next to him if it were to happen. Our whole D-Line would be just totally elevated. That would be a scary defensive line. And we get along, too.

I’ve seen him these last few years at different things. He texted me after I got hurt, which, I don’t know, it was just a cool thing. Like guys outside of your own team who reach out to you. So I think he’s a good dude. If he does, great, but I don’t know. We’ll see. But that would be awesome.”

As exciting as the thought of adding the six-time Pro Bowler to an already formidable defense is, the Browns have made it clear they are not eager to fulfill Garrett’s trade request.

However, if the Lions can present an offer that is too good for the Browns to refuse, the idea of Garrett joining Hutchinson to form a dominant pass-rushing duo would undoubtedly send shivers down the spines of NFL offensive coordinators in 2025.
