A Chicago Bears Rival Is Expected To Shake Up The Division Again
One thing the Chicago Bears can always rely on is the NFC North division making things challenging. They demonstrated this once more last season, which featured one of the most competitive rosters in the league. Three teams from the division made the playoffs, with the Detroit Lions taking the top seed. This may explain why the Bears were quick to poach their offensive coordinator, Ben Johnson, to become their new head coach. However, the team to watch over the next month may not be the Bears, if the rumors prove accurate.

Reports suggest that the Los Angeles Rams and quarterback Matthew Stafford are in a contract dilemma. The team has permitted the former Pro Bowler to explore options around the NFL. Will they actually trade him? The Rams have done it before, parting ways with Jared Goff. Once Sean McVay makes a decision, it happens. The uncertainty now lies in where Stafford would go if traded. Las Vegas oddsmakers have already looked into this possibility and seem to have picked an early favorite.

The Chicago Bears could soon be facing an old foe.
Stafford was Detroit’s quarterback from 2009 to 2020 and was always a challenge for the Bears during that period. The thought of him returning to the NFC North with Minnesota may not be too enticing. Sam Darnold, a free agent this year, is expected to command a significant salary after a strong 2024 season. Most anticipate the Vikings won’t pay him that amount. The natural move would be to turn to their 1st round pick, J.J. McCarthy, but if they feel he’s not yet ready, trading for Stafford could make sense. He would have playmakers like Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, along with Kevin O’Connell, a McVay disciple, as his coach. The big question is whether they’re willing to pay the price, both in money and draft picks.
